I admit, I used to love Paula back in her Forever Your Girl days and even on American Idol. But in the past couple of years, I find her annoying and a little kooky. Okay, maybe the media skews it to make her look a little drunk and crazy but I know she’s not.
The problem I have about her critiquing Idol contestants is that she always sugarcoats things. Saying positive things are great but when there’s a mediocre or horrible singer on there, Randy, and definitely Simon, will tell them the truth. Even Kara Dioguardi speaks her mind and that’s why I like her better for the show. Here’s Paula’s comment to a bad singer, “You look beautiful.” There are times when Paula comes right out and says a negative comment about someone’s singing, and then that’s when you know the person should never again sing in their lives. But that’s a rare moment and if she just told the truth to everyone, then I’d appreciate her more.
I have no idea why they even introduced a fourth judge last year since the show is always pressed for time. Remember when they had the judges critiquing in alternating pairs, and Simon didn’t get to speak for half the show? Ridiculous! Did they want to introduce a younger and fresher female into the mix? Or was it just to add more interest to boost their fallen ratings? Whatever it was, it didn’t seem to help much.
Paula Abdul would be a great judge for So You Think You Can Dance because she’s always been a better dancer than singer. She’s got amazing star power and talent to produce her own show and be successful off on her own.
The money was an issue though, and women still get paid less than men for the same job, which is atrocious in the year 2009. I understand Simon would get paid the most because everyone wants to hear what he has to say but come on, Seacrest getting that amount of money?! He’s not my favorite but at least he’s got better hosting skills than Nick Cannon! But if Paula thought she was treated differently because of her gender, than I think it was a good idea to leave the show.
Don’t worry Paula, you’ll be fine without Idol, but Idol will be fine without you, too.
